Archion
Seamless Direct Access
El Fresko's Archion product, provides seamless application data archiving to stand-alone and automated CD, DVD, MO and UDO drive and library technologies. ARCHION enables optical media to be locally and network mounted as a random-accessible, on-line file system(s), while transparently scheduling access to the optical drives, media and libraries. The modular architecture includes a robust SCSI device driver that supports 512, 1024, 2048 and 4096 sector sizes media, along with the powerful AutoJuke command line interface (CLI) scriptable management utility. A complete set of automated data and file migration tools are also bundled within ARCHION enabling transparent server-side data and file migration to any CD, DVD, MO and UDO media technology across the network. An optional API (Application Programable Interface) library that supports both native platform and device-specific ioctl functions is also available.
Self-Describing Means Fast and Secure
Archion provides a complete set of independently licensable eXtensible File System (XFS) components consisting of ISO 9660/RockRidge, BFS rewritable, UDF, WFS write-once & OLFS (Off-Line File Systems). Because all Archion media are self-describing, you have the security of knowing that all the super-block and inode index information used for directory operations and file lookups are contained on each media surface. This allows inter-platform data and media transportability to any supported host operating system environment. Archion recognizes rewritable and write-once media, media with standard disc labels, media without a label or partition scheme, bar-code enabled libraries, services to all standard system calls and allows online formatting of media in the attached drive(s). In addition, Archion also recognizes a valid UFS disc label, enabling creation of other partitioning schemes on various optical media types.
High-Performance,Transparent Scalability
Archion offers an intelligent way to access the same CD, DVD. MO and UDO data, and is specifically designed to provide high performance for hundreds or even thousands of optical media. Archion enables every optical disc contained in the subsystem(s) appear to be mounted and available. Intelligent scheduling algorithms provide transparent access to all the available optical drives contained within the array, mini-changer or library. Applications and users simply access data using the same system calls and utilities normally used, transparently. Optimal performance is achieved through the use of tunable pre-fetch and caching variables that allow both inode and data to be cached onto a pre-defined magnetic disk-based cache area. If a non-cached file is accessed directly from a non-cached directory on an optical media, Archion’s pre-fetch variable can be configured to roll in a portion of each file in that directory onto the disk-based cache area, providing continuous data access while minimizing drive and media exchanges. Archion is also capable of operating all drives in a library simultaneously to provide unmatched aggregate data transfer rates.
Simple Web-Based Management
For those interested in library administration from the Web, Archion offers a simple, yet powerful web-based management tool called ArchMan. ArchMan provides all the robust management functionality found in the CLI toolkit, but in a simple browser-based wrapper that can be accessed from anywhere on the world-wide web. Automated migration configuration management is also incorporated into the ArchMan interface. ArchMan also provides an intuitive, interactive online help facility for ease of operation by both the novice and expert administrator.
